Globally, the COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed the way that we live during the last 12 months. According to World Health Organization(WHO) as of January 12th, there have been over 88 million COVID cases and over 1.9 million cases recorded with increasing cases and deaths expected to continue. The COVID-19 Vaccine stimulates the body’s natural defenses (immune system). It causes the body to produce its own protection (antibodies) against the virus. This will help to protect you against COVID-19 in the future.
The United Kingdom has committed to provide Montserrat and the other overseas territories with vaccines against COVID-19.

Vaccination also, improves our community’s health. Through vaccination the majority of us can build immunity to COVID-19 this immunity will then extend to other who cannot be vaccinated.
The Oxford- AstraZeneca COVID- 19 Vaccine is available locally. The Vaccine was developed in collaboration between the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca, bio-pharmaceutical company heavily involved in research and drug development. The vaccine was approved for use in the United Kingdom in December 2020.
The Oxford- AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine combines a weakened adenovirus (cold virus) with a protein from the COVID -19 virus. This stimulates the body’s natural defenses (immune system). It causes the body to produce its own protection (antibodies) against the virus. This will help to protect you against COVID-19 in the future.
